From Grit to High Rise
St Peters Court, Lowestoft's only tower block, was built in 1968. The tallest building in the town, it was a local landmark of new housing development aiming to improve living standards. Built to rehouse residents of The Grit (Lowestoft's fishing village) and the demolished north-end streets cleared to make way for a new one-way system, nearly sixty years later the high rise itself now stands empty, awaiting demolition.
From Grit to High Rise will showcase a work-in-progress theatre show from the writer and company (including actors Sally Ann Burnett and David Redgrave, and composer/musician Maurice Horhut) that brought you the acclaimed Pearls from The Grit. Come and join their creative journey.
From Grit to High Rise is devised by Poetry People, in partnership with the Seagull Theatre, and supported by Lottery funding from Arts Council of England.
